This policy describes what VIN Auto Parts collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the website and the mobile apps.
1. What we collect Account: your name, email address, and — if you register as a seller — your business name, region, WhatsApp number and any website or Instagram handle you choose to publish. A password is stored only as a hash; we never hold the password itself. What you save: the cars in your garage, your saved parts and searches, and the parts requests you post. Listings: the parts you publish, their photos, and the donor vehicle's VIN. This is public by design — it is what the marketplace shows. VIN lookups: a VIN you search is decoded and the resulting vehicle specification is cached so the same VIN need not be decoded twice. The cache records the vehicle, not who looked it up. On mobile and on the web, your recent VIN searches are kept in your own browser or device storage and are never sent to us as a history. Contact events: when you tap to contact a seller we record that the contact happened, so the seller can see their enquiries. The conversation itself takes place on WhatsApp and we have no access to it. Technical: server logs holding IP address, timestamp and the request made, kept for security and abuse prevention.
2. What we do NOT collect We do not take payments, so we never see card or bank details. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we run no advertising identifiers. We do not sell personal data to anyone.
3. Photos Uploaded images are re-encoded on our servers and their EXIF metadata — including any GPS coordinates your camera recorded — is stripped before the image is stored or shown.
4. Who else processes it Our hosting provider, which stores the database and images; an email provider, for verification and password-reset messages; and VIN decoding services, which receive a VIN in order to return that vehicle's specification. Each receives only what it needs to do that job.
5. How long we keep it Account data until you close the account. Listings until you remove them or close the account. Server logs for a short operational period. Closing your account removes your personal details and withdraws your listings from public view.
6. Your rights You can see and correct your details in your account, and delete the account yourself from account settings — on the website and in the app. You may also ask us for a copy of your data or for its deletion by writing to [email protected].
7. Children The service is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
8. What we are not We are not a vehicle-history service. A VIN is used only to identify a car's specification so parts can be matched to it. We do not collect, hold or sell accident, mileage, ownership or theft records.
9. Changes Material changes to this policy will be announced on the site.
